The City of Texas City has experienced significant growth and redevelopment. Located along Galveston Bay and 40 minutes from Houston, Texas City is a regional manufacturing, retail, and healthcare center; attracting workers and new residents from all over the Lone Star State. The city’s advantageous position along I-45 and Texas 146, has made Texas City a recipient of expansion and new investment. There are over 4,000 manufacturing and petrochemical jobs in Texas City. Combined with jobs in healthcare, and retail industries, our local economy has become diversified and very attractive.
Texas City offers a rich quality of life, with a uniqueness that can only be found on the Texas coast. Texas City’s 50,000+ residents are active in the community, participating in festivals, charity events, and outdoor activities at the Texas City Dike and the Bayou Golf Course. In order to meet the growing residential demand, a 2,033 acre master planned community is being developed. Upon completion, it will provide 4,500 new homes. Texas City offers a lower cost of living than Houston or Austin, with room to grow.

Strategic Planning - "Pathways to Prosperity"
In 2022, the Economic Development Corporation partnered with Garner Economics to develop an Economic Development Action Plan for Texas City, titled "Pathways to Prosperity."
The plan outlines goals in four strategy areas: Asset Development, Effective Execution, Entrepreneurial Development, and Communicating the Brand.
The EDC utilized the document as part of a Strategic Planning workshop on February 15, 2023. The purpose of the workshop was to review the actions developed in the plan and to assign priorities/short- and long-term goals.
